Colocation America, a leading colocation provider, has recently donated one of their premier dedicated servers to CentOS, a Linux distribution which is derived from freely provided pubic sources.
The CentOS development team took possession of a premier dedicated server which will aid their efforts and boost their development. This donated dedicated server will allow CentOS to distribute updates to their clients directly and quickly via yum, facilitate distribution of the CentOS tree to external public mirrors.
“We are pleased to be able to be part of CentOS in any way we can,” says Michael Trunkett, President and CEO of Colocation America. “Their operating system is very reliable and trusworthy and the fact that many schools such as Austin Community College and University of Maiduguri rely on it, should give people even more of an incentive to trust their platform.”
For those who may not be familiar with CentOS, they are bringing technology to the masses, for free. Founded by a small group of developers, CentOS offers an active and prosperous user community, system and network administrators, core Linux contributors and contributors from around the world. Being that CentOS is available, and wants to remain, free of charge it is essential that larger companies, such as Colocation America do what they can to help keep them going strong.
